Global Instructions Generator

The instructions that apply to every Claude conversation in your account - how Claude talks to you, what it should never say, the context you are tired of retyping. Three minutes, paste-ready output, no email required.

Three generators, no overlap

Each writes a different file, pasted in a different place.

The three that are easy to get wrong

  • Banned words: Here is your own list. A ban that binds the whole company belongs in organization instructions.
  • Current priorities: Not here, they change. Put them in a knowledge file a Project reads, and update the file.
  • Anything about one client or one body of work: Not here. That is Project instructions, or it leaks into every unrelated conversation.

For you

Your individual global instructions

Tip: press Tab on an empty field to drop in the example, then edit from there.

How Claude knows you.

Your title and where you work, plus any background that should shape Claude's answers. Start with "I am a..." if it helps.

One or two sentences. Speed, depth, what matters to you.

Pick one, or write your own.

Tap the ones that bother you. These are the usual tells. This list is yours alone - a ban everyone in the company should follow belongs in organization instructions.

Yes-man, or a partner who pushes back?

Optional. Recurring constraints, priorities, or tradeoffs you want flagged, and how you want work handed to you.

What you want back, and in what shape. Pick any that fit, then edit.

Your instructions

Fill in a few fields and your instructions will appear here.

Where to paste this

  1. Open Claude (Desktop or web)
  2. Click your name → Settings
  3. Paste into Instructions for Claude
  4. Save. New conversations will use it immediately.

Anthropic updates these UIs occasionally. If the labels above don't match what you see, the location is roughly the same - look for “custom instructions” or “preferences.”

Next step: These are global instructions. For per-Project context (a specific client, a specific job), use the Project Instructions Generator.
